EMG CONSULTING The Event Marketing Group, LLC (EMG) was established in January of 1991. It is a diverse company that specializes in a range of events from Cause-Related Runs/Walks, Cycling Tours and Races, Multi-Sport, Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Races, Community Festivals, and Expos. During almost 25 years in the field, Mike Heaston, President and Owner, has produced, developed and managed over 600 events. In addition to the on-site logistics, the EMG provides services, which include: public relations; marketing; media buying; sponsorship sales and management; administrative support; general event and financial consulting. EMG has helped clients use events as a vehicle to reach consumers and raise money. Through special events, EMG uses what is commonly referred to as grassroots marketing reaching a targeted audience both economically and geographically. Not-for-profit organizations, merchants associations, corporate sponsors, local businesses, media companies and community organizations use its expertise. Clients use EMG to help raise money, as well as increasing sales and awareness. Among the notable events the Event Marketing Group LLC and Mike Heaston have been, and are involved with include the following: • Summer of 1993-Hired by World Youth Day to Consult and Coordinate the Pilgrimage for 200,000 participants in conjunction with the Pope's visit to Denver. This entailed the design of two routes, working with multiple jurisdictions, volunteers, medical staffing, travel coordinators, as well as vendors in order to successfully direct the participants on a safe walk to the Cherry Creek reservoir in Denver. • Founded and managed the SALOMON Nordic Series, which was the largest nordic series in the Western United States which saw almost 19,000 participants. EMG now concentrates on the oldest and largest xc skiing & snowshoe combined event in the state, the SALOMON Frisco Gold Rush. • Former consultant with the Grand Junction Downtown Association on the following: AT&T Wireless Southwest Fest, Wells Fargo Art & Jazz Festival, Miller Lite "Art on the Corner Golf" Tournament, and the Parade of Lights. • The producer of the 1st team relay and solo trail running event based on the popular 24 hrs mountain bike races, the SALOMON 24 hrs of Frisco along with the accompanying SALOMON Six, a 6 mile race to kick-off this popular weekend in the fall. This annual event has now "morphed" into the Town of Frisco's Fall Trail Running Festival and Oktoberfest weekend, the SALOMON EQUINOX offering a 6 & 12 mile run as well as a 6 & 12 hour solo/team relay. • Currently the technical director for the Elephant Rock Cycling Adventure, the Rocky Mountain Regions largest single day cycling event with over 7,000 participants annually held the first Sunday in June along with the 24 Hrs of ERock. Co-producer of the Copper Triangle, with over 2800 cyclists riding from Copper Mountain, Leadville, Vail and return to Copper Mountain on this classic alpine ride. • Currently produces and manages the Tour of the Vineyards, held in conjunction with the Colorado Mountain Winefest and is currently the manager of the Fruita Fat Tire Festival/18 Hrs of Fruita. • Produced and directed Denver's first Inline Skating Series, which ran from 1991-93. The series was sponsored by Rollerblade and was the largest in the state. • Worked with ESPN, Prime Sports Network (now Fox Rocky Mountain), and CBS, as well as many of the major television and radio stations in Colorado. • Worked with the Town of Leadville and Rockport to develop the first 100-mile mountain bike race, which is held in conjunction with the Leadville 100 running event. • Directed running events ranging up to 6500 participants, including the Governors Cup, Run for the Zoo, LoDo 5280, Colorado Relay Classic, Resolution 5k Run and Walk, Run the Rockies, and triathlons ranging from 2500 participants, including the Bud Light Triathlon Series, Governors Cup, Aspen "High Country" Triathlon, and the Avon "High Country" Triathlon. • Currently manager of the 3000 person Girl Scout 5K/1K and Aspen's 1500 person Race for the Cure. • In addition to the above, Mr. Heaston has also served as an adjunct professor at Mesa State College instructing a course in Travel and Tourism marketing and a contributor to Rocky Mountain Sports magazine (80,000 monthly distribution throughout Colorado and key locations in Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico). He has spent almost 30 years in the field of recreation with a B.S. and M.S. in Recreation and Administration from the University of Kansas. EMG assists organizations plan event budgets, select sites, create site plans, develop design layouts, secure sponsors, obtain necessary permits and liability insurance, manage media coverage, process permits and coordinate logistics. EMG also oversees the development of an event theme and advertising design; the creative design for print ads, posters and flyers; and the writing and dissemination of press releases.
