Please Support SOS Outreach
SOS Outreach works with at-risk and underprivileged youth from resort communities and urban areas. We serve youth 8 to 18 years of age who are identified by their schools or youth agencies as appropriate candidates for the program. SOS incorporates skiing and snowboarding with positive adult interaction and a focus on five core values: Courage, Discipline, Integrity, Wisdom and Compassion. Please visit www.sosoutreach.org or call 970.926.9292.
COURSE
Course starts and finishes at the Frisco Nordic Center. The loop is approximately 6 miles long. The last .4 of a mile is on pavement to provide a safe finish to the loop during the night hours. Start/finish is 9100 ft with a high point of 9500 ft. The S/F is on the North side of the Nordic Building. The course will be marked with SALOMON caution tape and will have over 300 glow sticks placed for the night running portion. The six and 12 mile race will have aid stations approximately 2 miles & 4 miles into the course (they will be removed once the 6/12 milers have completed the course). 6/12 hr solo’s and teams, please plan on providing your own hydration during the remainder of the event-water and hydration drink will be available at the Nordic Center. Since it is a combination of nordic trails and existing single track, the map gives an approximation of the course using the nordic trails as marked during the winter and existing summer trails (please see map). We encourage everyone to visit Frisco and run the area often to familiarize your self. PLEASE NOTE-due to pine beetle kill and subsequent removal of dead trees, the event reserves the right to change or alter the existing course.
CAMPING & LODGING
6 hr and 12 hr Teams/Solo’s will be able to set-up a base camp adjacent to the Nordic Center or by car/truck/RV in the parking area, Saturday morning beginning at 7 am. No open fires are allowed at the site. The Nordic Center building is open throughout the event with water, hot coffee, hot water, (for tea and chocolate). For information on local lodging properties, please contact the Town of Frisco at 800 424-1554.
TEAM & SOLO RULES FOR 6 & 12 HRS
Additional rules may be added as questions arise, so please continue to check this site for updates. For safety reasons, the event reserves the right to cancel or change a portion of the course if inclement weather or dangerous conditions exist. If cancelled, final results will be based on completed laps at the time the event was called.
TIMING & RESULTS FOR THE 6 & 12 HOUR RACES
6 hr & 12 hr teams/solo’s will be provided “timing cards”. At the conclusion of each lap, the racer must swipe their card at the timing area to record their time. It is the solo’s/teams responsibility to make sure this is completed after each lap. The computer will be available to the participants to insure their time is recorded and to better update the teams and solo’s on their progress. Each team/solo will receive 2 cards in order to alleviate the need to hand off or in case one fails.
Team/Solo Finish Order is determined by number of laps, then fastest time for those laps. In order to qualify for awards, Team/Solo must complete at least 4 laps to qualify for awards and may stop at any time. "NEW FOR 2008"-Team/Solo runners must finish their lap prior to the official finishing hour (6 or 12 hr) or that lap does not count towards the team/solo total (this is “clock” time, not the time of day since the event may not start on the same time as everyone’s watch). If final placing has already been established, we will request that a runner not enter the course in order to provide awards for the team/solo. No laps may start after the official finishing hour (6 or 12). Team/Solo may choose to stop and rest at anytime during the event but must re-enter where they originally exited. The team/solo (in their category) with the most laps is first. If team/solo have the same number of laps, the team/solo that took less time within the above guidelines, wins.
ALL TEAMS/SOLO’S-when you choose to finish your race, you must turn in your timing cards and inform the timing crew that your are not taking another lap. This is important, as we do not want to send out our Search & Rescue Crew needlessly-thank you in advance!!!
Minimum Age Requirement for the 6 Hr & 12 Hr Team/Solo: All participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver. Additionally, all participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present on site for the duration of the event. Participants must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
